With any program, all you need are the image frames that you want to animate. So, find the sprites you want, recolor them if you see fit, and then animate them together. Simple enough.

I'm downloading GIMP right now.

I also have Easy Gif Animator, but its about to expire.

Is it possible to make shining avatars using GIMP? Does anybody knows how to make shiny avatars with Easy Gif Animator?

I wouldn't call it "good" for animation, but GIMP is certainly functional, and it's 100% free. If you make your frames elsewhere, and just need to string them together, you can do that easily enough with GIMP.

Jasc Animation Shop (google it) is very good, it can help you adjust the quality to make the file size smaller, it has a 60 day free trial.
