the thing about the monkey is:
Flame drive pwns Grass/Ground
EQ pwns Steel/Water (fire moves are balanced aswell)
and to top it off:
its faster so it'll get them early...
FIRE RULES THIS GENERATION!

Most four-legged Pokemon are a lot worse than Pokemon that stand on two feet. I do prefer four-legged creatures over two-legged, but I always prefer to think about the Pokemon movepool, and the strategies that the Pokemon holds. I just think the Monkey can achieve more than the turtle, as the Monkey is two legged... I think...
Speed: The turtle looks very slow, whereas the Monkey is definately going to be very fast, well, probably. I hate slow Pokemon, I can't live without speed... Speed is your key.</s>

I do hate the fact that it's slow, but I don't really care. High ATK and DEF along with Curse are nice, so the Speed doesn't really matter in the long run.
Im with u.naetoru rocks!!!!!

Lolno.
Actually Flare Drive doesn't pwn Grass/Ground... It pwns Grass.
And second... It is weak to Water and Ground attacks. The same as the evos of the other two starters are weak against Fire and Fighting respectively. So it doesn't own the generation... It's balanced.
The same as every other generation.

Except RBY, where Blastoise just pwned everyone.
Charizard used Flamethrower!
It's not very effective!
Blastoise used Surf!
Charizard died!
Blastoise used Ice Beam!
Venusaur died!

Well all of them can learn an effective attack. I agree with how they are all balanced, and that's how it was designed. Whether you think your favorite type is good (fire, grass, and water), the beginner pokemon are balanced.
Buuuut, the monkey is underestimated because of it's looks. I tell ya, if you are making decisions of a pokemon's abbility in battle baced on looks, than you're a rookie.

the monkey's speed will give it an edge if it's got high enough attack and sp. attack.

It's attack and special attack are both equally balanced. But Enperuto's special attack dwarfs Goukazaru's. And its attack isn't that bad either.
On the other hand they can all learn moves that will own each other. For example Enperuto can learn Drill Peck along with water moves. That could own Goukazaru with both of its weaknesse's being used.

i mean that if Goukazaru is quicker it attack first, therefore (seriously) damaging the others for something else to finish off (if it gets knocked out).

Well you're right. And I took a few minutes to research the three starting pokemon. I honestly will say the penguin is powerful and has the best stats, than comes the monkey, than the turtle. But this isn't just about stats, but attacks, strategy, and as well as the trainer. If you're good; you'll do well with either one of the three.

venusaur had a flower on his back..game freak decided that wasn't enough, so they grew an entire tree on the new grass starter's back.
looks cooler imho.

meh... personally the fire monkey seems kind of lame to me. And they should've made it something different than a Fire/Fighting type, because Blazekin is already that...
They should've went all out with some wierd type mixes like a water/fire type or something

I really like Pocchama, because it's the cutest one and the final evo has got the coolest type combination i have ever seen: water/steel. check out enperuto's psydex page and you'll fall in love too

I'd pick the turtle because of the fact that he learns Earthquake when he evolves into his final form at 32

yeah, im picking the turtle, too, because it learns excellent attack at an early level, like razor leaf, they even suggested taking the turtle in a walkthrough i saw,but that doesnt mean i wont trade with someone to get the penguin, cause even though it will have a hard time in the game, I STILL THINK ITS CUTE

<center>I will select the fire monkey, Hikozaru because I always select the fire type. It has attack, sp. attack, and speed. Infighting will come with power and knock the opponent faint. Of course I will train it up to a certain level because of its many weaknesses, than replace it with a much more fit pokemon. But as for the starters it will pack the most punch. I will also nickname him ' ZEKE' after my brother. ^_^

2.welcome to the forums of psypokes
3.have you noticed that the type is fire/fighting, LIKE THE STARTER WAS LAST TIME?!?! IT ANGERS ME SO MUCH, THAT IT MAKES ME TYPE IN CAPITALS!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY BASICALY COPIED OFF BLAZIKEN, AND THEN GAVE IT A NEW LOOK!! I HATE IT WHEN THEY COPY POKEMON, LIKE THEY DID WITH MAGIKARP, TO MAKE FEEBAS!!! AHHHH!!!!!!

Titan, I understand you completely. I also dislike it when they copy a pokemon and try to sell it off as something different. It would have been more interesting with a different combination like how Enperuto is water and steel. They blew an opportunity. Nonetheless I will still select the fire type because of what I said before. If I restart the game later I will use Pocchama.

I'm probly going to choose Naeturo(grass turtle)
The others just don't look that great too me.
If not Naeturo(grass turtle) I would go with choosing the water type.
