Would anyone here happen to know the critical hit ratio without any boosting effects? (Silph Scope, Focus Power, ect.)

as a shoot-off question, what effects does scope lens have? increase it to 20%? and what about the move focus energy? and what is the critical hit ratio of moves like leaf blade?

I have a question. What exactly is a Critical Hit? I know it deals more damage, but by how much?

really????? 50% is pretty high!! and do you mean scope lens raises it by 20% (leaving a net of 30%) or to 20%.

As another off shoot question, if you used an attak such as Slash that would have been reduced in damage Iron Defence, but it got a Critical hit, would the defence increase be ignored? It's just that critical hits seem to do so much more damage, regardless of a defence increase, or a lowering of attack.

From my experience, a critical hit results in a 100% increase in damage (ie, the damage is DOUBLED). I just entered a few results into PsyPoke's fantastic damage calculator, and it seems to support my theory. Furthermore, Scope Lens does not increase damage dealt to the opposing Pokemon - all it does is boost the chance of the hold Pokemon performing a critical hit. Now, the damage calculator doesn't take into effect critical hits against stat modifiers such as Swords Dance or Defense Curl or other, but (again) in my experience, attacks dealt damage due with the effects of Critical Hits ignore these modifiers, so I can only assume that this is the case.

However, STAB and hold items such as Miracle Seed and Charcoal are considered when moves turn out to be critical hits. (and anything else too, like Sunny Day, Fly, etc).

when you get a critical hit it ignores any defence increases. i see it when i use my snorlax. if i have done curse 6 times, then an attack like earthquake does like 30hp damage. but if it gets a critical hit it does more like 300-400. sometimes its the only way to break through when the defences have been raised. however, if you have raised your attack and get a critical hit on your enemy, it still counts the attack increases. im not so sure what would happen if your attack had been lowered. eg if someone had used charm on you three times so your attack was really low, and you got a critical hit, im not sure what would happen.

and yeah, scope lens doesnt increase your power - it just increases the likelyhood of you dealing a critical hit.

A question on the Lansat Berry. You know how it raises Critical Hit Ratio right? Well does it act as a Scope Lens or is it a berry that you just hold onto and Critical Ratio goes up when HP is at half?

when your hp goes down to 1/4 or less (ie in the red) the lansat berry is activated and your critical hit ratio goes up. im not sure how much by, but you would hope it goes up a lot since otherwise you could just hold a scope lens and not have to wait until your health is low. anyone know the answer? i have a lansat berry by the way. :) i havent planted/cloned it yet though. who else has one??

what is your team for the pyramid? i used starmie, salamence, blissey. starmie = special sweeper, salamence = sweeper, blissey = healer.

thats not a bad team in terms of battling, and i can see you would probably do ok in the battle tower. but for the battle pyramid (and the pike also for that matter) you also need to focus on longevity. theres no use in winning battles but having to then use up hyper potions etc. you should use fast attackers and special attackers. swampert and armaldo are a bit slow, and that means they will have to take quite a few hits as you travel around the pyramid. having a blissey with you means you can heal your pokemon without needing to rely so much on potions. and maybe destiny bond isnt the best when youre hoping you wont faint.
