I have been playing Fire Red for about 70hrs, and i am at my second Elite Four challenge. This is my team:
-Charizard
-Raichu
-Golem
-Alakazam
-Lapras
-VILEPLUME!!!

I absolutely hate vileplume... has anyone got any suggestions as to replacements and movesets?

Thanks

How about a gengar?
When Dp comes out sludge bomb will be special and can learn giga drain
and shadow ball, and has like 2 or 3 immunitys.
thats a good one to raise

Gengar is used best as a Special Sweeper, and is only any good if you give it the basic Bolt Beam and Psychic combo.

What about another Grass type, such as Exxegutor? They are quite bulky. Or you could go and get Zapdos from the Power Plant, they are killers against the Elite 4 (especially your rivals Blastoise. )

Do you have any connection to RSE? If so try Cradily or Venusaur. And as Obsidian Wolf said Exxegutor is a nice choice but there is only one Problem. THIS GUY IS DEAD IF HERACROSS SHOWS UP! Just warning you.

It also depends on who you plan to use it against. Overall, I would chose Exeggutor because of its stats and possible moves. But if you are just looking for one against water, I would take Venusaur. But that's just me...

I will attempt to compile a list of Pokemon from the Kanto region that are good against the E4 members...

Snorlax
-Body Slam
-Rest
-Shadow Ball
-Brick Break

Snorlax is a good juggernaut. It is good against Lorelei, Agatha, Lance, and your Rival since Normal has only one weakness: Fighting. This does mean, however, that you can't use him at all against Bruno. But that shouldn't be a problem, seeing as your Lapras and your Alakazam should be able to wipe out his team.

Weezing
-Sludge Bomb
-Will-O-Wisp
-Shadow Ball
-Explosion

Weezing is an excellent Poison type, helped by his stellar defense and Levitate ability, which makes him immune to ground attacks (this eliminates one of his few weaknesses). Just don't pit him against any Pokemon that know Psychic type moves.

In addition to what I suggested, try Exeggutor or Gengar like the others suggested; they are both excellent choices!

Try Focus Punch Gengar

Gengar @Lefties

Focus Punch
Substitute/ Hypnosis
Shadow Ball/Giga Drain/ Sludge Bomb/HP Grass
Ice Punch/HP Ice

Giga Drain and HP Grass are mostly to destroy annoying Swamperts. If you want to keep your health up choose Hypnosis. The only flaw is its terrible accuracy.... If you want high accuracy, try Substitute. This works really well on most types.

I am also considering ditching grass/poison types all together... are there any other suitable types I am missing?

thanks everyone for the help by the way.

You could consider a Tyranitar or a Heracross

I have been actually considering both. Any ideas as to movesets?

Ttar is great. Go with DDance, EQ, Rock Slide and BBreak/Aerial Ace/Return and you will be fine. Or you could try special Ttar, with Bolt Beam, Crunch and...something else (DDance, lol).

As for Heracross, I find him only good in super competitive play. Not for ingame. Give him Mega Horn and Brick Break and you have a pretty good sweeper. Personally, I would use Ttar (which I currently am.)

Yeah, I was thinking of going for something like my Rival's tyrannitar, seeing as the people I will be fighting against arent particularly clever at the game. (blastoise with "hydro pump, surf, hydro cannon and water gun" for example).

As a result i have started to EV train a tyrannitar in att, sp att and speed(currently pupitar lvl38) and i was thinking of a extremely aggressive moveset such as:
-thunderbolt
-crunch
-surf
-Earthquake

i know you like ddance, but i dont think it would be worth it against my friends, i think my priority is to be effective against as many types as they can throw at me!

any thoughts on this strategy?

btw, i beat the elite 4 without using vileplume

NO! Thunderbolt, Crunch, and Surf are all based on SpAttk. EQ is Attk. 99% of the time, split EVs = BAD. And though T-Tar's base SpAttk is 95 - pretty good - his base Attk is 134 - much better - and T-Tar's moveset is Attk based. Try this:

Evs: Attk, Spd
- Dragon Dance
- EQ
- Rock Slide
- Brick Break/Focus Punch/Hidden Power (any physical type except Ground, Fighting, or Rock)

Dragon Dance is there to not only make T-Tar's Attack even better, but also to speed it up, as T-tar's speed is not very good. The other 3 are to deal serious damage.

If you really want a Special T-tar, go with this set:

Evs: SpAttk, Spd
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Crunch/Dragon Claw/Hidden Power (any special type except Electric, Water, Dragon, Dark, or Ice. I like to have HP Psychic here)

The problem with Bolt-Beam T-tar is that it lacks a SpAttk stat upper move (i.e. Calm Mind). It is usable though

Which ever one you choose, remember this: Tyranitar's Sand Stream will set up Sandstorm for the rest of the battle, which means that everone currently on your team except Golem will get hurt by it, so be careful

I'd recommend a Zapdos. It's flying abilities (e.g. drill peck) are super effective against Bruno and it's electric abilities (I taught it Shockwave) will take out most of Lorelei's team as well as Agatha's ghosts, Lance's garados and your rivals water pokemon. A magneton will also work quite well against the elites, and has a higher defense stat then Zapdos, but it IS hit with moves like earthquake and surf takes alot out of it. Keeping that in mind, Magneton is a very solid choice. My other recommendation (if you don't want another electric type) is Snorlax. It won't do much againt Bruno or Agatha (depending upon which moves you teach it) but it's a good pokemon to "beat up" while you recharge your team, especially if it knows rest, and it's not a bad attacker either.

dammit, i hadn't thought of that!
Plus i see what u mean about the moveset. I guess i have to ditch tyrannitar... thats a couple hours of my life wasted... i was thinking of bellossom, but again what moveset?

And i think i could do with a dark/dragon/steel pokemon aswell...

What about Salamence?

If you don't mind spending forever raising one, I would recomend Dragonite.

A move set would be:
Dragon Dance
Earth Quake
Ice Beam
Brick Break

That would only be a sample moveset. I am sure someone else can find a much better one than that.

Switch either BBreak or Ice Beam for Aerial Ace. Keep Ice Beam for the other Dragons, or keep BBreak if you want an all out sweeping team. But F_F is right, Draggles is a great asset to any team.

Well I suppose so, (you really should go to the Rating Center for this, but wtf,) but I think F_F included Ice Beam for the dragons that it would face. I know, I know, Dragons are weak against Dragon Claw, but think about it: the majority of dragons (Flygon, Dragonite, Garchomp, Rayquaza, Salamence) are doubly weak against ICe Beam. So technically, despite the fact that it would gain STAB with DCLaw, it would be more benificial to go with Ice Beam.

EDIT: Also, you really should have Earthquake. It is by far the best moves in terms of power and accuracy.

hmm, but i am not sure i need another earthquake... charizard and golem both have it.

Ok, i think i will go with dragonite, its just dclaw vs. icebeam now...

One last question,
what about a chansey:
-Ice beam
-thunderbolt
-Softboiled
-calm mind
