I first learned about PKMN from a close friend during the infancy of the R/B Generation. Actually, there were quite a few who would bring their Game Boys to school and play with each other. Later, I picked up Blue Version at my local Wal*Mart a few days later.

When my cousin gave me some pokemon cards. I got hooked on and collect very rare cards but my sister ripped all my valuable cards so i didn't play them anymore for about 4 years because i was sad. Then i met pokemon Ruby/Saphire and got hooked on again.

My step sister, Leah, got pokemon cards and pokemon red / blue for Christmas one year (I believe it was 1998?) She was 8, I was 10. I knew what Pokemon was, I was just never exposed to it until then. She gave me my first four pokemon cards - Farfetch'd, Geodude, Ekans, and Growlithe. To this day, Farfetch'd is still one of my favorite pokemon, because it was the first pokemon name I learned.
I also got a light-up Charmander from Burger King that I named Nick. I didn't have the games then, but when I got Yellow version sometime later, I named my first Charmander Nick.

My great-cousin (Or at least, I think he is) had two Game Boys, Pokémon Red version, and Gold version. He gave them away to me and my brother, and thus, I started Pokémon.

I think it was when I was in Grade 3 when people started playing with the cards. So, to fit in, I started playing with them. And, as you can probably tell now, I liked them! So I started buying the games and kept playing with them forever.

Got Blue when I was in 4th grade. A couple of my friends had it, and one night at a parent-student school function, I finally got it and a Game Boy Pocket.
I'm pretty sure I got the game before the cards. If not, then Staryu was my first card.

I don't really use a team. I just mix and match the Pokemon I have trained.

Everyone had the cards at school, everyone played the games at school and everyone quoted the anime at school. I didn't pay much attention towards it, until my friend gave me Sandshrew, Starmie and Dratini cards after helping him out of a tight situation. From there I traded and swapped, and from those three cards I managed to obtained some nice shinies, including Magneton, Poliwrath, NidoKing, Hitmonchan, Machamp and Gyarados along with some other nice cards such as Beedrill and Dragonair (not all at the same time though :p). Now all I have is Farfetch'd (I think it's fake :x), Eevee, Machamp and Arcanine. Actually I'm pretty sure I have a shiny Ninetales somewhere, but I dunno where that is.
I borrowed my friend's Game Boy and Blue version one weekend, and decided that it was awesome. So in the Chrissy of 99, I got my parents to get me a copy of Pokemon Blue, but I received Yellow instead. I didn't mind though, and not long after that I wanted more.
and seven plus years later, here I am on the eve of the release of the Diamond/Pearl generation, and although I probably won't play it <s>until that emulator comes out :x</s>, I'll always remember the endless entertainment pokemon has given me throughout.

I learned about Pokemon from watching the original Anime show. After about two or three episodes I went ahead and bought Pokemon Blue version. A few of my friends had Red and Blue as well so we battled and traded and had great time. That's when I got hooked on Pokemon and haven't been able to unhook myself.
...Not that I am complaining or anything.

Man, what a nice story. (not sarcasm)
Anyway, I first heard about Pokemon because it was all the rage way back then. (I was in the 2nd grade.) There was this Pokemon card club down at Zany Brainy about 8 years ago, so I wanted to join it. I started out with the Blackout deck with the original Hitmonchan card, but I never learned how to play. (No one ever told me how!) Then one day I lost the cards, but I still liked Pokemon. Then one day when I was walking in Laguna Beach, some older person with a Japanese Gold gave me about 30 cards. Sure they were weak but that's what started me collecting. Also when I was really sick with a headache my friend let me borrow his Yellow version. (Yes it's said you shouldn't play Gameboy if you have a headache, but strangely it does not affect me at all like that. My headache was killer as it is.) Then Christmas 2000 came and I got a Gameboy Color and Gold version for Christmas. I did get bored of it eventually...2 YEARS LATER. Man I loved that thing! Then I just kept playing and moving up and, well, here I am now. 1 more day then I'll conquer the Pokemon world! (Well, not really.)
And also, 8 years after I got the Blackout deck...I found it again! Hooray!

I saw my cousin playing his Blue version one time when I was *thinks* I believe about 6, maybe 7. Anyway, I borrowed his game, and proceded to play. By play, I mean "be crushed by The E4 because I tought that I could win by using nothing but Amniesa"
So, I got interested, saved up my money, and bought a GameBoy Color, along with Pokemon Yellow and RBY Pinball. I played Yellow that night, pwned everyone up to Brock, got Butterfree, continued to pwn with a lvl 57 Pikachu, lvl 55 Nidoking, and lvl 65 Butterfree all the way to when I had to head to Cinnibar, fell asleep looking for the Surf HM, and Ive been hooked ever since

Some of my friends brought Pokemon to class back in Primary School, and I borrowed the game from one of them since I was bored. I had no clue how to play the game then so I basically just rode around on the bike and explored the place.
I didn't actually get the game until several months after that, when my dad somehow got a voucher and bought me a GameBoy Color. The first game I got was Pokemon Yellow and I've remained a fan of the games till today since then

Well, when pokemon first came out I was "too old" for it (6th or 7th grade) but I'd occasionally play my sisters game or trade cards (my first card was a bellsprout my little cousin gave me) but it wasn't until last year I really got into it when I started playing my sisters Emerald version as a joke. Well the jokes on me now cause I'm positively hooked.

Hm, everyone seems to have found Pokemon from another source that like POkemon. Am I the only one that was so desperate for Pokemon when I saw it advertised that I pestered my sister to buy me Red and Blue the day it came out?
Well, that's me. I think I must have been...eight when I got Red and Blue, started Blue, and my sister deleted it (she threatened to, but then really did.} I played Red and Blue at the same time, and learned which Pokemon worked and which didn't (lol my Gyarados with SolarBeam and Fire Blast...:p)
Then, I got Yellow, and got Gold and Silver as soon as I saw them advertised. Completed them fairly quickly, worked out the cloning trick rather easily (I mean, that was just logic.)
Ruby and Sapphire fell out of the sky to the expense of my failing bank account, and I then bought Fire Red and Leaf Green. Then I got Emerald, and am getting PD on Tuesday.
The only Pokemon games I have never owned is the little Tamogotchi thing of Pikachu. I hate that Pokemon, and always will.
Oh, and in my first pack of cards I got, I got the Alakazam. It had 1/102 at the bottom, and mistook that for its rarity, and vowed that I would always train Psychic Pokemon as my favourite. That worked up until Ruby and Sapphire, where I discovered just how strong the Dark and Dragon type were....*huggles Tyranitar.*

I was bored one day and the very second episode happened to be on tv, I watched it and was immediately hooked.

About 9 years ago, when I was in 5th grade, my friends started to bring magazines and mangá on Pokémon and I once decided to read one of the books. I looked at the creatures and thought some of them were really cute, specially Ponyta, which was my number one favorite, along with Rapidash, and also the first Pokémon name I learned (and wouldn't stop calling the poor pony "Epona". C'mon, you gotta admit the names are similar). I remember one quote of mine in my first contact with Pokémon: "Hang on a second, they change their names when they grow up? Why?!".
Then I decided to buy the same magazine a friend of mine had, which had a section on every Pokémon in Red/Blue, just for the sake of looking at their pictures. Sometime later I started to watch the show and always had that old Nintendo magazine with me to check the monsters. A few years later, when GSC was on sale I downloaded my very first Pokémon game, which, if I'm not mistaken, was Pokémon Silver, and was also the only time I had a team of 100-leveled Pokémon (Espeon, Ampharos, Typhlosion, Pidgeot, Ho-Oh and Lugia). The first Pokémon game I actually bought was Pokémon Sapphire, two or three years ago...
I started watching Pokémon sometime after I first had contact with the monsters at school, I think it was about the same time the infamous seizure incident happened and it was news everywhere around the world (I remember watching that news at my friend's house, and she was desperately afraid of watching the show, while I simply loved it: it was also my first contact with Anime). I can't really remember what was the first episode I watched, all I know is it wasn't the first one, but it was definetly one of the very first episodes of the Indigo Season. I remember I loved the Pokémon race episode, though, because I loved Ponyta (and still love them, both the episode and the Pokémon, heh).
Oh, yeah, good times.

I remember back in elementary school a bunch of boys in my class were really into pokemon. Because of them I had the speach Jesse and James give, memorized. It wasn't until I was 11 though that I actually got into pokemon through one of my friends who let me play his Ruby version.

Well, my friend bought a Game Boy with a Spiderman game (I used to love Spiderman) but instead of getting Spiderman I got Pokemon, so I was like 'Crap...oh well...I HAVE A GB!! YEAH!' so I started playing yellow, stopped playing for a year (I couldn't figure out how to get my first pokemon....spanish's fault) then I figured out and got really hooked up. I started playing before the anime, and since it was Mexico, I met the cards a few years later. Galar, that same thing happened to me (with the magazine deal).
~~
My first ever episode was the first pokemon episode. When it first came to mexico, the comercials were everywhere, and I liked the game, so I felt like watching it, which I did. lol
