Probably a stupid question, but I haven't really been breeding since the days of Silver, so I'm a little rusty on this topic...

Does the Pokémon you are breeding have to know the Egg Move in order to pass it along to the kid, or will the Pokémon itself just be enough and you have a chance of passing the Egg move along?

Example (because that probably isn't clear at all):

Sneasel has the Egg Move of Ice Punch. It can breed with (among other things) Delibird, Buneary, and Lopunny. My Lopunny does NOT know Ice Punch, but if I bred it with a Sneasel, would the kid maybe get Ice Punch?

I've got a couple of Pokémon that I'd like to breed for Egg Moves, but I forget exactly how the Egg Moves things work... [/i]

listen.the baby pokemon will ONLY take egg moves from the mom pokemon. duh...the reason is because the mom pokemon is mainly the maker, so get a female sneezul andbreed it with any male pokemon related to it. {snorlax} duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh!.....i hope u read this.

sencerely,

The moves that the baby will have is determined by the father while the kind/ species of the baby is determined by the mother. For example if you were to breed a female sneasel without ice punch with a compatible male pokemon who knows ice punch then the baby sneasel automatically knows ice punch.

I don't believe your actual question was answered.

The egg move to be passed down has to be one of the 4 moves the father knows. Just being a move the father can learn will not cause it to show up in the baby.

This also is the case with TMs. If the father knows a TM the baby can learn (at the baby stage), it will be born with the move.

Hope that clears things up. :D

Ah, gotcha okay. Thanks for the answer!

As I said, I haven't been really paying attention to Breeding since Gold/Silver, so I know I'm a tad behind knowing who passes on what to the kid, X3
