So why is ghost resistant to bugs? Aw, my head is spinning... Bugs are a physical nuisance but ghosts aren't very effected by small annoying things?

Well, it could be... It doesn't satisfy me completely though.

Something has to work. Something must explain it.

Well, there's always the "Mr. Iwata, we can't find a better matchup. Shall we proceed with this?".

Flying > Grass: I think this one exists because...Well I've got nothing.
Dark, Bug, Ghost > Psychic: Common fears.
Dragon > Dragon: Competitive nature?
Steel > Ice: Hmm. Melting? Perhaps the friction and stuff makes it easier to cut it? Or perhaps ice skates.
Water !> Steel: Come on Game Freak, Ever heard of RUST? (well water is resistant to steel, so there you go)

forgingiron wrote: Water !> Steel: Come on Game Freak, Ever heard of RUST? Well, steel actually needs quite some time to begin rusting. So, even if you Hydro Cannon it, it won't rust instantly.

Ground > Rock This is because the ground creates rockslides.
Rock - Ground Rock has normal effectiveness because it's not special when engaging in battle against the ground, it's neither super nor in-effective.

Yeah, but rock is actually not very effective against ground in-game. I think it might derive from the fact that ground is actually grinded rock. So it's like a rock type sees its future when battling a ground type. I know, it's dumb. But I can't think of anything better. Except the rockslide thing khoufou said.

I dunno, if you throw a rock at the ground like... reaaaally hard, then... well, yeah.
Ground does consist of the move Fissure, cracks in the ground... or rocks... perhaps.
I think dragon beats dragon because you can't beat a dragon without dragon... powers. Like, they're deities in most cultures (sorta), so it's like fighting fire with fire. Dragons were originally kinda like the "God"-type, resisting all the common types, so it makes some sense. I guess.
Don't tell me "If you fight fire with fire, shouldn't fire be weak to fire?" As clever as that is, no.
For Flying > Grass... birds eat plants I guess? I mean, imagine a plant trying to beat a bird. Or a dryad if you prefer.
Water kinda slides of Steel, so that could explain it...
I feel there's a legit reason why Dragon is weak to ice. I tihnk it has to do with mythology... I'm not sure.
Honestly, I feel Game Freak made these weaknesses to just feel right and natural, despite logic. Maybe. I dunno.

Dragon's weakness to Ice has two eplanations (for me, that is): 1. In many mythologies, the enemies of the gods are often beings of cold and ice (e.g. Norse myths). 2. Ice was added for an extra weakness. Otherwise, we wouldn't have Dragons. We'd have Highlanders. That's what I can think of.

The reason Psychic types are weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost is because these are basic fears, and fear manipulates the mind. To explain it to litte kids: Wild appeared! Go! ! Wild used Lick! is friggin' scared! Super effective! fainted!

I have my own two reasons A - As a story of dragons and ancient beings/gods being frozen in ice trapping them forever 3 - assuming that dragons are cold blooded creatures like their lizard counterparts
