I just attack while trying to do effective damage and protect myself from harm at the same time.
Yes... It may not be the best strategy but it sure is fun!!!
NE ways... How do you go through a normal battle?

*Trumpet fanfare* Charge!!!! I usualy just make an all out attack. Status effects just slow you down. Choice band is your friend. But don't worry, I know the worth of stratagy. So I have breakers to most common ones.

All out attack with sweepers, because all my favorites happen to be best as sweepers.
On NB, I lead with Boah, switchwhore with Regice and Skarmory, and use Starmie/DDMence/SubPunching Ampharos as needed.

Sweep. 'nuff said.
PS: I'm pretty sure there was another topic like this. But it has disappeared into the oblivion known as second page.

I like to play mind games with my opponet. After the games I pull out an assault with powerfull moves mostly Earthquake (since most of my rock types have learned EQ).
If I am in trouble I throw out a Normal type pokemon or form some type of wall.
This this pokemon out.
Lv100 @leftovers
Nature: Defensive
- Thunderbolt
- Light Screen
- Toxic
- Sub/Protect.

It depends on who I'm using...
@leftovers
Thunder
Shockwave
Quick Attack
Bite
Thunder for major damage. Shockwave for annoying evasion raisers. Quick Attack for speedy foes. Bite for the occasional Shedinja...
@leftovers
Water Spout
Ice Beam
Body Slam
Thunder
Water Spout for starting off a battle (and normaaly finishing it in the same turn). Ice Beam for Shedinjas. Body Slam for Paralyzing. Thunder for when HP is to low for Water Spout to have much affect.
@leftovers
Sky Uppercut
Blaze Kick
Overheat
Slash (Wide Slash in MD)
Sky Uppercut for flying foes. Blaze Kick for burning and its critcal hit rate. Overheat for shorter battles. And Slash, also for its critical hit rate.

The only thing as fast as jolteon is aerodactyl, and you are not really killing him with a quick attack. Ice beam for shedinja???? What a hell??? Shedinja is a Ghost/Bug.

I just power through. Maybe with a stat boost or two along the way.
Calm Mind sometimes.
Sometimes poison or burns. Etc.

{skarmory}
-roar
-toxic
-spikes
-steel wing
My strategy is using toxic-shuffler. I can also use spikes on my opponents and roar them away.

I enjoy just using whatever is best in the situation. I tend to use my (Lvl. 61) more because I am trainging all my pokemon. But if I have to, I'll use my (Dragon Claw rules!).

I like batton pass chains and I also like the skarm-bliss combo for in-game.
My favorite passing pokemon:
NinjasK @Liechi berry
-Sword dance
-Subsitute
-Batton pass
-Silver wind.
Just send it against a tank or during some pokemon's sleeping turn (rest) to make sword dance safely. Then just use subs until the berry activates and batton pass the attack and speed to a Metagross with another liech berry. If my crab gets hitted in the incoming, the liechi activates; and now the oponent must face a metagross with 4x attack and 2x( or more) speed................. A real monster

I am actually a fan of Physical Sweeping, as I enjoy using Choice Band and using moves that can cripple a fellow sweeper. I am not a great lover of tanks, but they sometimes appeal, whereas Toxi Trappers bore me. I like to be in on the action when battling, not stalling.

Agreed, Obsidian.
I'm pretty much an all offensive battler, but I still use stat improving moves like Calm Mind (of course). But yeah, short and sweet, that's what I like. I seem to favor attack/special attack over defense... And in the Final Fantasy games. I'd much rather have my knight carrying two swords than a sword and a shield.
Reckless? Probably.
Stupid? To a degree.
But I have more fun this way.

For most of the game, I rely on brute force. Tactics are too much hassle to use when you're fighting an opponent that *used Thunder Wave on Geodude!*
When you reach the Elite Four, then strategy could be useful... except that in the one move you spent on Swords Dance, your opponent paralyzed/poisoned/pwned you. Sometimes, and only sometimes, status effects can be useful in a longer battle.
Of course, the Frontier Brains are a whole different kettle of fish...
Edit: JJ, I assume that you've played FF Dawn of Souls, right? That's the only FF I've heard of where you can equip two swords or shields.
