Anyone exciting for this? Any thoughts?
with seeing more trailers+teasers of the movie i am becoming less excited by this movie. sure, the promise of burton/depp again is great, but this is wonka we're talking about--depp is gonna have to top gene wilder, baby. i know, before all you movie purists jump on me, its not a remake of the oldmovie, just another adaptation, but that still doesnt rule out the comparrison between wilder and depp.
what i fear most about this movie is that, like most people are anticipating, it will not be as 'dark' as people suspect. lets remember that not everything burton does turns to gold (he remade one of my fav movies of all time, planet of the apes, and it was atrocious), and i fear that although he has a lot to work with here, it may not be too new or exciting from the previous movie. im excited to see him exploring more of the backstory, and also going into more detail with issues like oompa loompas, but so far this movie looks shallow and over-produced.
heres hoping im wrong.

Don't point any fingers at me and call me a "Burton purist", but I have to clear his name. He was signed on to Planet of the Apes well into its production, and had no say on the script or the casting. He was given a bunch of material and told "here, turn this into a movie". So he tried his best at making it as visually stunning as possible, and succeeded - but only in that department, the only one he had any say on. Tim Burton didn't intialize the project, he didn't say "hey, let's re-make Planet of the Apes", so technically, he didn't re-make it.
I've seen all the trailers and promotional material for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and let me just say this short statement that will pretty much sum up my opinion:
It will be Tim Burton's best.
First of all, Johnny Depp can play anything he wants to. If he wants to play an over-the-top eccentric, he can. If he wants to play Willy Wonka exactly how Gene Wilder did, he can, easily. But he said himself that he doesn't want to immitate Gene Wilder, he (and Burton) wanted to take the character in a different direction, expore other aspects of Willy Wonka. Skeptics, be prepared for a surprise: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is going to be excellent. I've been anticipating this movie more than any other movie release this year up until now, and I really can't wait for it!

dont get me wrong, I love depp to death. But still, from what I have seen so far his wonka seems really iritating and uninspired. Maybe I'm having cold feet or something, because I too was really anticipating this movie ever since the rumours began. But after seeing each trailer I was just left with a feeling of indifference, rather than seeing/experiencing the gloarious magic I was expecting. Like I said, I'm hoping I am wrong.
I also reserve my opinion that Christopher Walken would have made an awesome Willy Wonka.

LMAO, Christopher Walken would be a creepier Wonka than Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder combined. I'm 17 and he creeps me out, imagine what he would do to innocent little children who go see the film. They'd have to give it a PG-13 rating just because of Walken.

im going to put this in a veiw as i see it:
Charlie and the Choclate Factory is a horror film. let me explain
its a bunch of people being led around a fun house by a mad man followed by little creatures and are one by one disapearing or mutating. that might get all of those horor lovers in the teaters and all the little sissy pants out

It scared the heck out of me, this looks like a waste of my time. That movie looks really creepy and Johnny Depp looks like a ghost. My Grandparents are going to want to take me and my sister to it, but I'll be sure to hide my eyes.

I really want to watch this movie.
I haven't read the book, but I've seen the first movie and I absolutely loved it. Plus, Tim Burton is an amazing director, and Johnny Depp is a freaking good actor. I love this new Willy Wonka appearance (I actually think Tim Burton adapted the original story to its own style). I'm almost sure I'm not coming out the movie room complaining about it, its not going to let me down.

I saw the film yesterday, and... it completely exceeded my expectations, if that's even possible, considering how high my expectations were as it is (Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, the trailers...) I'll post an in-depth and lengthily review tomorrow.

I don't know if i want to see it or not. I just find it funny how you guys all seem to have given it a quadriple thumbs up or a quadriple thumbs down. Well, i'm giving it a Neutral summary

That's most likely because you haven't seen it.

I'm not going to see it. From what I've seen from the trailers, they've taken yet another old movie and ruined it completely! :x
The first 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' movie really had meaning to it - a boy and his family who were poor and at the end received their own chocolate factory - that was a touching ending.
Now, just by looking at the trailers to this new (supposedly improved) remake of the original, all I can see, no offense, is an insane and crazy actor who horribly fails at attempting to act out Willy Wonka.
Again, no offense.

I'll see it when it comes on D.V.D., but it does make me a bit upset that they redid a classic movie that was rapturing already. Seems that a lot of people feel the same way as I. But anyway, my positive impression on this movie is that I believe it will be a nice, fun movie to watch.

The people that worked on the movie have clearly stated that the film is not a remake of the original movie, but a remake of Dahl's book.
