First off becuase most readers want to know how narnia was created and the deeper magic rules, they would want to know in general how the wardrobe came to be.

But don't you get it? What good is knowing how Narnia was created and how the wardrobe came to be, if readers don't even know WHAT Narnia is, and what the wardrobe is?! The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the most magical and exciting introduction to the world of Narnia, and THEN, once you're introduced to the world and to the existence of the wardrobe, THEN you'd want to find out how they were created. That's why The Magician's Nephew doesn't make for a good first book - Lost is the sense of wonder of first discovering the world of Narnia along with Lucy and her siblings.

the Magican's Nephew is just as good as the lion th wittch and the wardrobe to some people. The lion the witch and the wardrobe is just abit more action packed( even though the war was almost skipped in the book), but to some people the Magican's Nephew is better than the lion the witch and the wardrobe becuase the witch comes in, how C.S describes the things aslan does to create the world and bring the animals up from the ground. So know nido you don't understand my point is that the order there in is better than the order you thought they should be in. The order has been changed to this for a reason becuase England didn't like the series so C.S started a company in America becuase it would probaly sell better. Also as I keep telling you they were in that order because the people that he cared about most was reconized first.

I feel I have to step in here. I still haven't gotten around to seeing the movie, however I have read all the books. In fact, I have a boxed set sitting right over there.

The "proper order" for the books is the way they were written. After all, THEY WERE WRITTEN IN THAT ORDER. While it is true that in terms of time in the books, The Magician's Nephew does occur BEFORE this one, it was written as the 6th book in the series. This was to look back toward the origins of Narnia and the wardrobe, to be read by someone who has already read the first 5 books.

The Magician's Nephew is a good recollection. That's what it's meant to be. It's designed to look back on the world of the other books. LW&W is the book that actually introduces the reader to land of Narnia. As such, it is the book to read first. Reading MN first may be more logical in a cronological sense, but it does not give a proper introduction to the fantasy of Narnia. In fact, it would seem to me that it would ruin it to first be given the facts of how the land came to be, and then to try to pass it off as this magical other world. It simply does not work.

 Look how many times do I have to tell you guys he made it do to the people he cared about first that is why he made LW&W first becuase Lucy was his God Daughter.

And how many times do WE have to tell you that you're wrong.

He wrote the books to tell a story. That story is spread over several books. Name one other book where the author wrote chapters 2 through 6, and published them in that order, then went back and published chapter 1, then the last chapter, intending for people to read the chapters in numerical order. You just don't do that.

Sometimes it is easier to begin at an ending. JRR Tolkien BEGAN with the silmirillian, but stopped work on it for the trilogy and the hobbit, though he worked on the silmirillian his whole life, and never did complete it. SO :P Mister snazzy pants!
