Yes, we're finally cracking down on it. In case you didn't know, if you lied about your age (clicking the 13 and over link) and you were really under 13, you were breaking the law. Since the administrators are technically breaking the law as well by allowing you to be a member knowing you were underage, we're going to start banning people, going by this list: Quote: 1995-2007: Twenty members.

It would be illegial for them to join without COPPA if this site collected their information commercially. Because its a privately owned website (by you wonderful admins) technically speaking its perfectly legal for anybody to come and register unless you put it in the registration terms. If its little kids you're worried about coming to the site, simply put an age restriction in the terms of use. If they don't abide, technically that's breaking the rules of this site, if they persist they are likely violating their ISP's terms of use. COPPA is only good for sites like eHarmony, which I'm glad to finally be a part of. Nothing like a good internet date in a chat room. COPPA Website wrote: Who Must Comply

You could argue Pokemon is a general audience phenomenon, thus this website is directed towards a general audience and not children. |

...thanks for the info? I think it's best if we keep our forums (generally) 13+, as it filters out good discussion with...childish mayhem. |

Hmm, half these COPPA forms I'm looking at indicate gender, home town, and other such PERSONAL INFORMATION. Just because it's not REQUIRED that said information be entered doesn't mean it's not worth the extra effort to err on the side of caution and require the COPPA anyway, since children can opt to enter information that falls under the COPPA act. |
