Ive been wondering, if someone is asleep can you flinch them? and if you can does that mean that they dont lose any time on the sleep. for instance, you could hypothetically keep flinching them and they would never wake up? I was considering raising a persian with assist so it could use sketch and have :

Fake out (which would be pretty strong with stab and technician)
Spore
Bite (again raised by technician)
Focus punch/cosmic power/ conversion (to dark for stab on bite)

Edit: if it doesnt work, should i replace bite with last resort? (fake out first turn, spore second, focus punch while asleep, and then stabed last resort). looks nice on paper

1st, I don't think Assist works on Sketch.

However, you could try the strategy with Smeargle - try it with a high flinch move, like Air Slash. I really don't know if a pokemon that's asleep can be flinched (theoretically Nintendo might have made it possible, as sleeping pokemon can still attack with Sleep Talk)

Do you know anyone who's tried assit + sketch? maybe i should make it another thread..

regardless, if the flinch sleep thing works i was also gonna try it with a yanma and compound eyes. (hypnosis at about 91 percent, then air slash). Do you think that would be any good? i mean, obviously stealth rock would positively murder the idea but otherwise i was gonna use focus scarf and try it.

thats a terrible idea. i dont think any of that works at all. Those pokemon would get murdered before they tried it. if anything, a senere grace pokemon...

Well, I think the way flinch works would only work if the Pokemon tried an attack.

At least in my experience that's how it has been, with my Kiss hax.

And when you have something smeargle style (btw sketch assist only worked in ruby/sapphire, to my knowledge) There are just better things to do.

But if you're running this set, I say drop fake out, unless you have to deal with already sleeping Pokemon under sleep clause, you'll most likely want to open with spore. In regards to the Persian of course.

I'm not a yanma fan, he's too slow without speed boost and with it his movepool takes a cut, so I'm no help there.

Assist+sketch only works in ruby and saphire. When fire red and leqaf green came out, they realized thier mistake and took it out. in emerald they put smeargle in, and you trade that to ruby. yanma can be btained in fire red and leaf green, trade that over to ruby, get assist, have only smeargle in your party, take careful aim, and sketch somthing.

However, that method is called "backtrading" and is looked down upon. Thats why I dont use my delcatty or hypno. Ever.

Better combo would be paralyze the pokemon, then use flinching moves. Combo that with a confusion move and you have a very effective annoyer set!
