Ok, so I want to raise a volteon on my rain dance team because of thunder obviously. and i was wondering, do I go with modest or timid? do I really need close to 390 speed or is 350 enough? I mean, even if i come across an aerodactyl or something, is that pokemon likely to have a speed nature? My aero has an attack nature. should it be speed? This really troubles me cuz i dont want to waste speed when i could be using it for attack and special attack strength in these two pokes.

for jolteon, speed is better since he has already decent special attack, and thunder+stab does BIG damage alrdy.
you might want to have a timid, but don't need 252 evs in speed.
you mostly want to be sure to outspeed weavile or 383 speed pokes or lower if you don't fear aerodactyl/crobat with 394 speed.
u can then spare the saved evs into hp, where he could be able to create a 101hp substitute, allowing u to resist 2 seimic tosses from a blissey

Well, you could go with modest and quick claw it, but docile or other speed raising nature would be good on jolteon; but if you have the quick claw, I'd go with that and modest nature.

Ghetto, Im not sure how we can make this clear to you,
YOU SUCK AT POKEMON
quick claw has a 10% ACTIVATION RATE, its JUNK!

back to the topic, I would say go all out speed. Its almost the fastest pokemon in the game, why waste that? Its third to ninjask and speed deoxys and thats it, thats really fast. If i were you, I would figure out its DVs and go for just over max speed crobat. If it were me.
good luck on your thunder dance team.

I don't know them off hand, but there are some magic numbers to remember in regards to speed.
Personally I think it's entirely worth it to completely max out jolteon's speed to keep him from having to trade blows with zams, weaviles, gengars, and to put fear into aerodactyls.
But that's just me, I also favor the pokemon as a baton passer since he's just so fast. I think Aerodactyl needs the speed more than Jolteon does though, there's just so many fast pokemon he can knock out if he's faster.

Well I guess that's settled. I'll go with speed then. I guess I should do the same on aero for my other teams. i really wonder why we dont see more kabutops out there. they really are great on thunder dance teams. just a side note.

FaceLess, magic numbers hardly exist in D/P anymore.
Thanks to Choice Scarf and such, magic numbers aren't really "magic" anymore.
As someone else said, you should go with Timid, but maybe not 252 Speed EVs. The SubPassing set, which is the most common on a Jolteon, usually has 216 Speed. But, due to IVs and such, you may need to adjust this to reach the same number based on your IVs.

I don't really use a team. I just mix and match the Pokemon I have trained.

Magic numbers don't exist? Think again; more and more people are getting max speed on their sweepers. Pretty soons even the nubsauces will do it.
Especially when considering you have to outrun at the very least a weavile...

There are magic numbers for choice scarf as well.
I don't know them by heart but a fair number of choice scarfers arrive at similar numbers for speed and some are much more common than others. And they should be taken into consideration.

yea thats true and thats why all the ppl in my party usually use speed as a strategy like heres one of my pokemon for expample
my Arcanine which i named him after my dead dog Sarge..which i miss everyday now but ne ways he is xtremly fast for an Arcanine prbly from all the carbos i gave him whe ni got him and stuf which boosted his speed a lot but usually he always hits first which is good for me in most of my stragtegies but yea usually speed is always good to have for a pokemon.

Someone could stick a Choice Scarf on anyone, and beat out your speed.
Magic numbers are no longer guaranteed like they used to be.

Stop trying to be condescending, child. Giving valid input is hardly spam.
You're forgetting another Pokémon that's faster.

lol!
but that reminds me, you also have to watch out for slow pokemon like Shuckle and Bronzong using Trick Room (or watch out in double mode: Trick Room + Power Trick Shuckle)

I absolutely love how the people who are new are critisizing me for telling ghetto not to reccommend movesets. If youve been here for maybe, a week, you would know that ghett0 couldnt make a decent moveset if final fantasy depended on it (which is infinitely more important than any one persons life, except mine and chuck noriss'(lol))
@ denizen: by saying my post was bad, you yourself spammed
@ alonely:electrode isnt commonly used. It not common enough to threaten, and if people see one they usually switch in somthing like skarmory, foretress, or gengar.
@welcomekanna: see denizen
@ everyone who doesnt think magic numbers exist: They are very much alive, anything from defenses bieng at a certain number to counter a common attack to an attack bieng at a certain number to counter a common defense. My forretress for instance, has just enough defense to take on 6 brick breaks from a weavile, an explosion from a metagross, and other things I cant really say ATM, as anybody reading this whos in any tournaments Im in would then have an advantage :/
