I know that certain moves don't cause status effects, like toxic doesn't poison a poison type, and leech seed doesn't seed grass types. But there are some moves I'm not sure about:

Sleep Powder (grass) Can I sleep a grass type with it?
Will Will-O-Wisp burn a fire type (that doesn't have Flash Fire)?
And basically, so-on and so-forth.

WoW - IIRC, doesn't affect Fire types
Twave - does affect Electric

Thunder wave effects electric types? That's unusual, I was expecting it not to work. Ahh, well you learn something new every day... however unusual it may be.

I think I've used it against electrics in the past...

Yeah, it does work, as does secondary paralysis (ie, Thundershock can paralyze a Pikachu). I've had my Luxray paralyzed a lot in the Battle Tower.

Oh yeah, and I have a very strong feeling sleep powder effects grass types.

i think T-wave is nullified, but no HP is restored by volt absorb, since t-wave doesnt deal damage to absorb in the first place.

electrics can definitely be paralysed, even from thunderwave (maybe someone has already said this). but a pokemon with volt absorb isnt effected by thunderwave - this is a new improvement in the 4th gen, since it used to work in the 3rd gen. the only things to watch out for are: fire types cant be burnt; poison and steel types cant be poisoned; grass types cant be leech seeded. then you just have to remember other basic resistences, like electric moves not working on ground types (thunderwave included) - but something that has always bothered me is that a ground type can become paralysed from (say) a pikachu's static ability.

Yeah, that annoyed me to no end when my Sandslash got paralyzed time after time during battles with Pikachus in Pearl.
