Okay, I've had this idea in my head for quite a while now, and it's the idea of raising a team of Pokemon that have all got King in their name. This brought up this list:

Slowking
Nidoking
Kingdra
Kingler
Seaking
Slaking

Clearly, this is not the most Godly team in the world. I could centre it around Rain Dance, but it's not like it does me a favour considering the fact that the only Pokemon that gain a boost from it would be Seaking (yay) and Kingdra. All Water moves would be boosted, but that's not a reason to use Rain Dance for that purpose, no?

So, I did another list, loosening it up a little to include Pokemon that merely allude to royalty and I drew up this list:

Slowking
Nidoking
Kingdra
Empoleon (Emperor :P )
Kingler
Nidoqueen - (queen = female monarch. Really, you didn't know that? :P )
Any of the Regis (Regi = latin for King)
Seaking
Slaking
Vespiquen (sort of queen...pushing it, I know)
Wailord (lord?)

So, I ask this of you people: I need your help in deciding which six Pokemon would be best to bring out a Royal Team.

The Pokemon I would rather like to be in there:

Slaking - Hard hitter, especially with Choice Band.
Kingdra - Works well even without the rain.
Regice - Good SpSponge, and I've already trained one which is useful.
Wailord - Scarf Water Spout? Might be a good one...
Nidoking - For the nostalgia of it being Team Midnight's EC winner. Memories...;.;

As for the others, well...

I really don't want these Pokemon on there:

Nidoqueen - Who needs queen when you have King?
Vespiquen - SRock weakness, and it's pretty crap overall.
Regirock - Without Sandstorm it's awful, and even then it's pretty useless.
Seaking - Without a good movepool / stats / typage, it's awful, and seeing as it has none of these (well, type is good, but without the other two, that lets it down) it has nothing going for it.

So, with those Pokemon taken into consideration, here is the list you can choose from:

Slowking
Nidoking
Kingdra
Empoleon
Kingler
Registeel
Regice
Slaking
Wailord

You can suggest movesets if you like, but a general overview of the six Pokemon would be enough, i.e:

Quote:
You could go with Slowking and Empoleon, because you'd be able to set up Rain Dance with Empoleon, and then fire off Nasty Plot / Rain boosted Surfs with Slowking.

That sort of thing. ;)

Thanks people!

I guess rain dance would be the best way to go with this. Probably want at least 2 dancers though. Slowking, if I remember is a more defensive slowbro. I think you could raise a defensive one to be your dancer. Then bring in Wailord. Scarfed spout with max HP (31IV) under the rain has GOT to be a beast. Regirock - I know you don't want him considered, but you do need SOMETHING to absorb electric attacks. I am dead tired now, and will think on this more seriously later.

PS - Congratulations!

regice
nidoking

raindance is the best choice here
slowking opens up with RD then nasty plot
then empoleon or kingdra to continue the offence (save wailord for later)
then regice or nidoking (by then there will be a grass or electric type on the feild)
end with wailord

Slowking has 130 Spdef, whereas Slowbro has 130 Defence. Neither is more defensively orientated, their defences just lie in different places. The most notable difference, however, is Slowking's access to Nasty Plot.

As for Regirock, it is only Rock type and so won't be absorbing Electric attacks. I think I'll use Nidoking for that.

Scarf Wailord really does seem the way to go, it's just a shame it doesn't have more speed.

Heh, thanks muchly. ;)

It's not the types I'm worried about, it's the attacks. I can only think of a few OU Grass and Electric types (Tangrowth / Celebi / Electivire) and only one of them is standardly offensive. So it's Thunder Bolt and Grass Knot / Energy Ball that I'm worried about, not the type of Pokemon itself. Any Grass type is decimated by my Ice Beam from one of them.

I definately think Rain Dance is the way to go, and Nidoking is a must have to switch in those Electric attacks.

I've been thinking about it today, and I've come to this idea:

Kingdra - Opener, holds Wet Rock and activates Rain Dance. Shove Surf / Dragon Pulse on there for decent coverage.

Registeel - This will be defensively orientated, as we have a sp. sponge. Perhaps it could have Thunder on the set to combat Skarmory.

Nidoking - We need a bit of physical for this set to avoid being walled entirely by Blissey. Choice Banded Sucker Punch sounds pretty fun.

Empoleon - SRock activater, and general Sp. Sponge. Surf / Ice Beam / Grass Knot has pretty good coverage.

Wailord - Scarf Water Spout - I think we've all agreed that this will cause some major damage to anything that switches in to it.

Slaking - Base 100 Speed will probably (rather comically) make this Pokemon one of the fastest Pokemon on this set, and I could even kid myself into using this as a late game sweeper, despite its ability. Shame it won't get anything from Rain Dance, physical water attack would have been nice on it, especially with Life Orb damage. ;)

So, comments? Any alterations? I'll draft the whole team...tomorrow. Maybe. Lots of homework. :(

Cheers people!

I did some damage calcs, and if metalkid is correct spout under rain is like a 3-4HKO on Bliss. Not so good.

Okay, that's bad. Scrap Wailord, we'll not use that gargantuan...perhaps Slowking instead? Nasty Plot Surf with Rain should be pretty impressive, and I might even shove Trick Room on it, it would be damn fun, even if it is something of a novelty. ;)

It's still a stretch, but why not Tyranitar? As in a Tyrant?

Kangaskhan might work, a khan is a mongolian leader if I remember correctly.

Hm, tyrant links to dictators, I suppose, but I think the real link for Tyranitar would be Tyannosaurus Rex (rex being King) but then even that is a push...that, and I don't have any other SStorm pokes to take advantage of SStorm, other than Nidoking and Regirock, and that screws up the water theme.

Hm, I'll keep that in mind. Good knowledge on your part. :P

Yes, Genghis Khan was a mongolian leader. Also, ""khan" means "ruler/king" in Turkish and Mongolian.

I like this, as it's a team that could do great, but it also has somewhat of a stylish theme. I myself am thinking of making a Dog-based team, with Arcanine, Mightyena, Houndoom, etc.

On a side note, isn't latin for king "Rex" and not "Regi"? I think I heard my english teacher say it was Rex, but I could be wrong (And he could be, too)

"Rex" is Greek king, like the play "Oedipus Rex" meaning "Oedipus the King"

So you're half-right.

Ah well, I was close, I mean, 'Regicide' was where I was thinking about it; the act of murdering the Regis. :P

And my name is Enigma on other forums, and I also use cards as my theme. That's damn weird. Pleased to meet you. :P
