I am building a team and have come across chosing a lead. I am currently going between weavile----infernape----and areodactyl. If there are any others or one that os better than the other please state :

Aerodactyl is best in my opinion, unless you go with Jolteon or Kingdra, those only have one weakness, supposedly.

In my opinion, I would say Infernape. Try make it a Pokémon that counters leads (look on Smogon.com for Infernape, and search for the LeadApe set). The weaknesses don't really matter, at the start of a battle you'll usually want to get Stealth Rocks down.

I'd say Infernape because with Vaccum wave and Mach punch you can build a move set as special, physical, or mixed The priority moves gives you an advantage over many sweepers and leads
I'd go physical
Mach punch
Fire punch/Flame blitz
Shadow claw
Fake out

This depends on the structure of your team. If you mainly rely on say, slowly killing your opponent, Aerodactyl. Quick sweeping lead, Infernape. General sweeping using several Pokes, Weavile.

{aerodactyl}
Stealth Rock
Spikes
Roar
Rock Slide/Aerial Ace

{infernape}
Fake Out
Nasty Plot
Flamethrower
Close Combat

{weavile}
Swords Dance
Ice Punch
Brick Break
Night Slash

Good luck, soldier!

Always use whirlwind intead of Roar because of sound proofs
And for infernape go with
swords dance and fire punch no need for nasty plot because in that set it only powers 1/3 moves
besides infernape has equal SA and AT so there no reason for the boost
SD powers 3/3 moves

Weavile, he is THE revenge killing lead, and can stop moves like stealth rock.

{weavile} @Focus Sash

Counter
Night Slash
Brick Break
Fake Out

I actually have to agree with this set. Fake out can really mess with other trainer's lead, by doing some damage and making sure that a focus sash will not work. Then, using Weavile's high speed, you attempt to finish them off. If done well enough, you can sometimes ensure that stealth rock/weather/spikes are not put into play.

My opinion is that you starter should be able to lead, and back out if need be, with moves like baton pass or u-turn

You should probably have 2 or more leads. I had Blastoise and Charizard as my leads on Platinum, and I tried to add Rotom but 3 leads was too much. SO I suggest Aerodayctyl and Waevile, that's good, right?

OKay, Ambipom wins hands down although underestimated it's an awesome pokemon:

{ambipom} - Timid, Ev's: 6def, 252atk, 252speed

-Silk Scarf

~ Fake Out
~ Taunt
~ U-turn
~ Double Hit

or my Anti-lead awesome:

{jirachi} - Jolly, Ev's: 80hp, 252atk, 176 speed

-Choice Scarf

~ Stealth Rock
~ Trick
~ Iron Head
~ U-turn

P.S On first turn use Fake out for Ambipom and Trick for Jirachi unless you know opposition is a choice user if it is use U-turn.

omg :frustrated:
{metagross} adamant @ occa berry
stealth rocks
bullet punch
explosion
metoer mash/earthquake

THIS is the best lead in gets rocks set up no matter what, has a stap bulet punch that hurts other leads like weavile and aerodactyl and can explode on swawperts and hippodons or pokemon that try to wall it .

Umm 1 taunt from ambipom ( 361 speed) COmpletely stops Stealth ~.~ and the Technician plus Silk scarf x 1.5 for STAB on fdake out and double hit is awesome. But U-turn on metagross to a predictaded EQ and go to a wall or flying type :D

Your first pokemon is your lead, nothing else. Just try to learn a little more before giving suggestions.

I enjoy an Infernape with

Shadow Claw
Flamethrower
Brick Break
Thunder Punch (or grass knot?)

It pretty much eliminates all of his weaknesses except ground, which trading a move for Grass Knot can remove, but I dont recommend it.

FIne, whatever 1 lead, even though I thought 2 was possible since I have a Charizard and Blastoise at the head of my team both lv 75. I suggest Kingdra, then, since it only ahs one or 2 weaknesses, and is a really powerful Dragon/Water pokemon. Dragon Pulse, Hydro Pump, Dragon Dance, Water Pulse it has great defense. I'm training one atm on Platinum.
{kingdra}

Though I wish not to relate to the above post, my long time lead favorite has been Kingdra.

Modest@ swift swim
Lum berry
140hp 252s.atk 116speed
-surf
-draco meteor
-yawn
-rain dance

Rain dance away hail or sandstream leads, after the rain surf will OHKO TTar as well as outspeed any DD or CS version. Surf carves up almost all SR leads except Empoleon, the only one to resist water. SR will still probably get up on me with or without sash, but it's not minded. Keep smacking BP leads and yawn on the expected pass to disable them(while this may sacrifice Kingdra.)
When rain or kingdra is on it's last turn use yawn or DM+yawn to help get kingdra safely switched out, or when KO'd yawn helps my next poke set up. EVs in HP help it bulk out a few hits, as excessive speed EVs are kinda pointless in attempting to outspeed much faster leads before swift swim activates.

Haban berry is used in 3vs.3 to wipe out the much more common dragon leads, as the only dragon move that will OHKO outside Ubers is Modest Specmence's draco meteor, which is good info for me to counter it.

okay, i have to say Weavile.
the speed gives you so many options to just jack your opponent up. what i always thought would be cool was to use a glaceon/weavile/hail team all along...
that's not what this thread is for however so....bye!

ok well

lets see

we should tackle this a bit more openly

theres a LOT of starter choices

so it all depends of what kind of trainer you are

if you want a starter to set up, or one to sweep

to me the right starter would probably be one that is ready to take on any type of starter

that ambipon looks pretty tasty btw

but BC, he's asking for a certain pokemon of a list, none more.
Aerodactyl is good except when fighting a...WEAVILE LEAD(that knows Ice Punch) lolz.
infernape versus a...WEAVILE LEAD(knowing Aerial Ace or equivalent) will be smashed as well.
have i not just proven why Weavile w/the right moves is the best i suggest:
Night Slash(for STAB)
Aerial Ace
Ice Punch(bred or an Emerald trade)
and then something fancy!

I actually took Fake Out off my Infernape, and replaced it with Protect. Hear me out.

Infernape with Focus Sash, will guarantee you get your SR off. If you've maxed out speed, you're going to lose to Aero anyway, so bring in Infernape later when you know you can outspeed. It's awesome to Toxic someone, and stall them out with Infernape when they least expect it. It may seem ineffective, but I've had a lot of success with it.

Also, it's imperative that you have a spinner kill the opponent's SR, or your Ape will obviously die when switched back in. ;)

I'm not a fan of the suicide lead, myself.

Infernape has access to both Mach punch and Vacuum wave, which will OKHO any Weavile without a sash. Whereas non-boosted AA
will 2hko.

{tentacruel} actually makes a decent lead. It's pretty good at setting up toxic spikes, and is able to rapid spin off whatever your opponent sets up.

Here is a suport Tentacruel that I found off of Smogon to give you an idea of what it'd be like.

Tentacruel-Leftovers/Black Sludge for item clause
Liquid Ooze, Calm Nature
252 hp evs, 120 Def, 136 SpDef

Surf
Toxic Spikes
Ice Beam/Sludge Bomb
Rapid Spin

Tentacruel has slightly higher base Sp.Att then Attack. If you feel that your team is lacking in physical power, then go ahead and replace surf with waterfall and sludge bomb with poison jab.
