Here the strategy
Pokemon uses curse X times then follows up with gyro ball

Steelix w/ leftovers {steelix}
Sassy
Gyro ball
Curse
Double edge / Earthquake / Fire Fang
Protect

Pros: Steelix gets a STAB for Gyro ball, lots of resistants, ,It has a little more HP than Torkoal and a lot more DF
Cons: It has greater speed than torkoal, lower SD, has more weakness, highly susectible to low kick and grass knot

Torkoal w/ leftovers {torkoal}
Sassy
Gyro ball
Curse
Amenesia
Protect / Flamethrower

Pros: Less Weaknesses, Amnesia, Slower, white smoke
Cons: less resistance, less HP

If only Registeel could learn gyro ball

I'd go with steelix, it makes a decent switch-in against physical attackers, and because it doesn't get demolished by an earthquake. Low kick isn't really ever used, and the only pokemon that you ever really see grass knot on are waters, who you'd be switching out on anyway.

If you want a really good gyro baller, try out bronzong. He's a good supporter, has great typing and an ability to nullify ground and then he has explosion. Then there is his horrid base speed.

I can agree with all of this except saying that Steelix isn't demolised by Earthquake as he usually is.

there are to many pokemon with eq, torkoal will be destroyed but steelix can hang in.
