I am wondering, is Natural Cure absolutely necessary for a Starmie in PvP battles? Because my Staryu is modest, is EV trained for 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, and 6 HP, and has very good IVs (25+ Sp. Atk, 25+ Speed, as well as good Def and Sp. Def), and it's quite hard to find one like it. The only problem, of course, is that she has the useless ability (indeed, sort of "harmful") Illuminate, instead of Natural Cure. So I'm wondering, if/when I make a PvP team, would this Starmie be usable or would I have to find a different modest/timid Staryu with Natural Cure? |

You should probably be fine. The ability could have come in handy every so often, but there's no need to go find and train a whole new Starmie when you already have one with a shoddy ability. If you really think it's that big of a weakpoint in your battle strategy, then go get a new one. But I think you should be okay. Just tack on a Lum Berry or something so you can at least get the same effect of Natural Cure once. |

Breed it So you will have decent IVs, a good nature and a good ability |

Go for one with Natural cure. Illuminate is 100% worthless. Breeding may take a while but that staryu+a good IV ditto can make a good or better IV'd staryu with a useful ability. (negating your opponents status attempt is very worthwhile.) |

I also say Breed for Natural Cure...it's just better then Illuminate...& very useful on the switch if neccessary... |

yeah, in PvP battles, Natural Cure is FAR more useful than Illuminate. |
