Post subject:  Miltank, Sweeper or Sponge?

I've started building up a miltank with a naughty nature (+att -sp def) and the DV examiner at the Battle Frontier has said that its best stat is its Attack and it is outstanding.

So, I'd like some opinions on which is better for a miltank: a physical sweeper or a physical sponge?*

Thanks

*Note: I have access to all TM's and HM's, however, I don't have the time to breed.

i'd have to go with sweeper, because it has that good attack. Stomp and Body Slam are musts.

Seriously, this should be in either the netbattle board or the appropriate game board.

Miltank can do both. Body Slam + Milk Drink + Shadow Ball + Heal Bell/Thunder Wave/Earthquake/Physical Move.

Give it HP, Atk, and Def Evs and BAM. It is kinda like Donphan.

I was going to put it in the netbattle section, except more people view this section then the netbattle one so I'd get more feedback.

that isn't the point.

They made the Netbattle Board so this board doesn't get flooded with these kinds of threads.

Tobey summarised it all. Anyway, do post in the relevant boards next time. Each of them exist for a reason.

You are in a rare situation where Miltank can exploit both strategies effectively. I would advise Double-Edge, Shadow Ball, Earthquake, and Milk Drink. :)

sweeper would be better.
Miltank has high speed, so give ATK 252/spd 252/HP 6
and a set something like
Earthquake,Shadow Ball,Curse,Milk Drink/Body Slam (preferibly Body Slam on my account)
were as, a sponge, Miltank would just be slowed down, and then Heracross(physical Sweepr) owns the coo.

actually not.

Miltank is a normal type with an awesome movepool that houses Curse. That means Miltank is like a Mooing Snorlax.

Curse, Body Slam, Earthquake/ShadowBall, Milk Drink.

Heal Bell, Curse, Body Slam, Milk Drink

Sub, Focus Punch, Curse, Shadow Ball

For this case, the first set would be ideal.

Also, Miltank can take physical hits that aren't focus punch or brick break with relative ease with Milk Drink to swish away the damage.

Milk Drink, Heal Bell, Body Slam, Shadow Ball/Focus Punch/Earthquake.

So, much like Donphan, Miltank can serve as both.

I like Return on Normal types. I know Body Slam has paralysis chance, but base 153 (i believe) power after STAB isn't something to laugh at. It also has more PP than Body Slam.

I think your Miltank should be a sweeper...

Shadow Ball, Return, Milk Drink, Earthquake.

Technically if he is raising his miltank in-game, then its not really a NB question... a lot of people face the same problems in how to use their pokemon in game such as tyranitar or salamence... some dont have TMs some dont wanted to breed, but this question isnt really about netbattle

I think {miltank} can be used in either way. This is my miltank. If you want to use it as a sweeper then thats fine. But make sure it has MILK DRINK.

{miltank}@hard stone
lax nature
-ROLLOUT
-MILK DRINK
-DEFENSE CURL
-BODY SLAM

Comments on Miltank:

1.) There are bettter normals. I do mean snorlax. Even though it lacks wish, Its got belly drum. Heck, any normal w/ an attack and/or speed stat hiher than miltankbeats it.

2.) Miltank is good for its own metagame. Let us divide the metagames 5 ways. Uber, Standard, Border, UU, NU. Miltank is probably in the Border section, because her stats aren't "bad", and she gets heal bell and milk drink.

3.) Uses- Sweeper or supporter, wall. Gets curse to raise the attack for sweeper, and learns psych-up to copy the opponents stat changes. Has heal bell for a supporter. Has a decent 105 defense for a wall.

4.) Movepool. (Sweepr first, Defensive Later)
a.) Curse is okay. If it has curse, it gives up one of the most important stats for a sweeper (speed) to give it more attack power and staying power. Psych-Up may be the best option. Stealing Calm Minds, Dragon Dance, Belly Drums are good. And, Psych-Up leaves all options for you (imagine psych-up-ing a ninjask on the third turn after a swords dance, a silver wind, and Harden. THATS NICE!)
b.) Getting off of stat upers, lets look to attacks. Body Slam/Return for STAB is a given. EQ would be good, but the fact that Gengar is now popular {look up McIceGar (Movet 1)} requires that shadow ball is on. The only problems you have now are those that resist shadow ball and normal moves. These include normals, rocks, and steels. Rock Slide and Brick Break are good. Or, go w/ S-Toss for constant 100 HP Damage. That gives you the opportunity of Milk Drink for healing. Or Psych-Up. Just hope that Shadow Ball doesn't lower SDefense.
That leaves you with a Miltank like this:
@Leftovers
~Curse/Psych Up
~Return/Body Slam
~Shadow Ball/Rock Slide
~Brick Break

Or Like This:

@Choice Band
~Return
~Shadow Ball
~Rock Slide
~Brick Break

5.) Moveset (Defensive, whether walling or supporting, or doing a bit of both.)
a.) Offensive Moves, better to get it over with. S-toss for constant 100 HP damage. Shadow Ball for ghosts and psychics. Or Return/Body Slam for STAB.
b.) Non Damaging moves. Heal Bell, Milk Drink are musts. Its your choice, however, of Psych Up or Curse. Curse can always be used, but Psych-Up can produce better results. Just hope that Shadow Ball won't give the bad side-effect. Other options include T-wave (not really needed if you're doing body slam or stomp, but still a possibility).

Also, a note for both Miltanks. Psych-Up is Definately better in Double Battles.

Why use something along the lines of Miltank as a sweeper when we have Heracross, Salamence, Tyranitar, etc?

Miltank is a staller type of Pok

Use this moveset for Miltank

Double Edge
Milk Drink
Psych up
Swagger

Use Swagger on the opponent to confuse it and raise it's attack then use Psych up to gain the attack and then Double Edge away. Milk drink is to recover from the recoil damage.

id have to go with sweeper. if you try to use in as a sponge then it wont be able to survive against special sweepers. sp def is decent but not high enough to be that. the attack and defence are good but if you continue on the sponge part your constantly going to recover against a sp sweeper. leaving you stuck.

Miltank is a staller type of Poké, hence moves such as Milk Drink, Heal Bell and Thunder-Wave to inacapacitate. So, I suggest even if DVs are high (and they're generally not going to make your stats 'the best'), you use the Standard sponge or nothing else.

In reading the above post, I laughed. Miltank is not a sweeper, it is more like a Snorlax that Curses and walls as well as sweeping when necessary.

- Stomp is just a less powerful Return with a minor chance of flinching not worth considering
- Flyers do not resist Return and Shadow Ball. I think you meant to say Steel types, which is the classification of someone like Skarmory. And Skarmory is the only bird who resists them.
- Rock Slide is stupid, and Miltank can't sweep without Curse which isn't in your moveset.

DON'T FLAME!!! INSTEAD OF SAYING *MOVE* SUCKS, SAY IT'S A BAD MOVE. I MEAN IT! GRRRR!

Back to the topic, I think, both. A Miltank w/ Curse, Defense Curl, Rollout and Milk Drink is good.

Do you want to know why I dodn't repost - I didn't want to bring up a dead topic.

This should have probably been moved to my board (hoenn), for the team rating, instead of netbattle.

Rock Slide and Ice Beam are the hit moves of toadays metagame (wide hitting capabilities, especially on gyaramence and levitators).

Anyway, a few comments on Miltank sets:
R-cubed : You are too vulnerable. The following can come in, and scew you over - Steelix, Golem, Skarmory, Gengar, Dusclops, any Rock, Steel or ghost, any sweeper (after you deal damage, they'll finish you off before you heal), anything with low defenses (you could deal out 4 times your remaining hp).

Gnaaye - Rollout is a weak version of Rock Slide, and where's the STAB'ed Return/Stomp/BodySlam?

Stop it. Saying a move sucks is just being candid. Get over it. Flaming is when a person is being insulted -- like I'm subtlely doing to you.
