So the long and short of it is I found 2 shinys in the friend safari less than 15 minutes apart, a shiny Ferroseed and a shiny Pansage. two different friend safaris BTW neither were online, Ferroseed was caught in Mason zone. Discuss.

The Mason zone? That's where all the cool kids hang. :P

It seems that overall the rate has increased. Rumor being equal to having the shiny charm in BW2. Plus you have the Matsuda method and return of Radar chaining and the new Fishing chains. But as of yet I've heard nothing about the Friend safari having a different rate.

So far all I've got is a hatched Shiny Froakie.

Hm is it possible that tipping actually has some kind of effect? :O

I've been tipping a lot (just because...) but I haven't been encountering very many wild Pokemon so I can't confirm or disprove right now that it increases shiny encounters. I should get back in the grass.

The rumor, as Mason said, is that the shiny encounter rate has generally increased. I don't know if tipping is connected though. The only thing I know for sure about tipping is that it gives you a Medal in PGL.

I don't know that tipping has anything to do with shinies, but I would not be surprised if the shiny encounter rate has gone up, and not just in the Friend Safari. I hatched two shinies on Thursday morning last week, and one the Saturday before that, and I generally don't tip. Only one of the babies had were bred through the Masuda method.

Not sure if it's increased but I did find a Shiny Dragonair on my first encounter in some guy's safari. I do usually tip as high as possible but it honestly sounds odd that tipping would increase shiny chance.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, nor have I seen it proven, but SPP has stated in their shiny mechanics page that the overall rate of encountering a shiny pokemon is twice as likely as it used to be, now around 4000 and something. Neither the Psylab nor Bulbapedia has confirmed this, however.

Unfortunately, I don't think we will be seeing confirmation for this any time soon. From what I hear, game code on the 3ds is tough to crack.

Celebi updated their shiny page the other day saying that the rate was cut in half.

Quote:
As of Pokémon X & Y, it is a 1 in 4,096 chance of finding a shiny Pokémon.

How accurate this is I have no idea, but it seems to be right.

Have you seen Instacheck? When each egg is checked it records the projected IVs of the hatched pokemon, along with a shiny value. This shiny value ranges from 0 to 4095 (i.e. 4096 numbers). If the shiny value matches with a trainer's shiny value then the pokemon is hatched shiny (so you can trade the egg to that trainer to hatch it for them). It thus follows logically that the shiny rate should be 1/4096.

I have only found one shiny and that was in Gold Version. I've played every game. I have bad luck, I suppose.
