It was awsome! I saw it awhile back.

I would give it a 10/10 for a batman fan.
10/10 for super hero fan.
9/10 for action fan.

I saw it the day after it opened here, and the cinema was surprisingly empty. I don't need to say too much about the plot as Nido has summed it up quite well.

It must be noted however that this movie is definitely darker and more true to the comics than any other batman movies, including Burton's. I'm not batmann comic book purist, but even I know that Burton totally screwed up the origins of Batman, one of the finest qualities of Batman Begins, and also screwed up the movie with his conceptions of the baddies (the penguin quacked? wtf. Catwomen's origins, wtf?). Granted, Nicholas was great as the Joker (as was Devitto as the Penguin), but he wasn't The Joker in the normal batman world, but a new adaptation that was more 'Joker as played by Nicholas' rather than 'Nicolas plays Joker'. Burton tried to straddle the line of 'dark comic book' and 'campy 80's batman' way too much. Batman Begins by no means does this--it is not a movie made for the masses. Most of the negative reviews received have labelled the movie for not being 'superhero enough', as in not enough gadgets and not enough special effects. It's true, it is not your regular superhero movie, it's better. It's a movie based on characters and atmosphere. It lasts a good 2 hours plus, and a good hour of the movie is dedicated to building up Bruce Wayne's character. I've yet to see a comic book movie do that (look at Spiderman, who I thought had poor character development). The dialogue is awesome (no where near the shocker of Star Wars), and all roles are played superbly. Batman Begins is the definitive batman movie. Scratch that, it is the definitive superhero/comic/action/suspense movie of the year.

It's better than Burton's, it's better than Spiderman, and if there was any justice in this world Batman Begins would have received more hype and box office respect than Revenge of the Sith.

EDIT: the ending also sent shivers up my spine. I cannot wait until I see the next villian depicted in the sequel...

Well said, Eighteen, but I still think that X2 (X-Men 2) is the best comic book/superhero movie. It has all of the elements that make Batman Begins good, including amazing character development, but it manages to apply these things to an ensemble of characters, and not to just one. also, I love X2's message (discrimination of minorities just because they're different). In general, I always thought that the X-Men were the most interesting superheroes. The complexity and number of characters, to begin with, is impressive enough, but also the way that they keep on protecting the people who hate them. No doubt about it, though, that Batman Begins is one of the better comic book movies, up there with X2, but not quite reaching it.

Also, I agree that Spider-Man was kind of weak regarding character development, but Spider-Man 2 totally compensates for that.

And regarding Tim Burton: You can't deny that what Tim Burton did with the Batman world, while campy and unreal, was brilliant in its own way. I mean, Batman was always meant to be "dark", but nobody could ever imagine just how dark it could get, except for Tim Burton, who turned the Batman world, especially in Batman Returns, to an insane, surreal, gothic nightmarish world. While it isn't realistic like Batman Begins, it's also not campy or cheesy. I think it's genius.

ja ja saw the batman movie 8)

im gonna have to say that it was a far departure from the misgivings about the quality of the film before seeing it (seeing as how most previous batman movies completely botched the storyline and character development).

of course, setting was what really elevated this batman flick from all the others. the quasi-goth feel was a welcome exchange from the corny style previously adopted in horrible batman depictions like "batman and robin."

the movie stayed true to the comics (im wasnt a big batman comic fan, but from what ive gleaned from the old tv series and frequent trips to the local bookstore) despite some fresh remakes of characters like raz-al-ghul (fans plz forgive the spelling). the ending was also delightfully entertaining and does a dashing good job of tying in the "beginning" with the rest.

Sorry 4 double post

I have to say, im a little dissapointed. It was difficult to tell who was good or bad, but the plot came into view too late in the movie.

ill give it 3/5

Im glad with the direction they took this movie with. It was less Comic book world and more real world which fits 'Batman' more, I was still dissapointed in the real world location of Gotham being Chicago and not New York but thats one of my personal gripes.

The way they showed how batman begain help this movie to become an instant favorite something the other movies havent touched like this one. And how batman became batman down to were he learn to fight, why the outfit and cape, The hand made Bat"stars".

Overal as a Batman movie it didn't disapoint and niether as a good summer movie. I will try to see it again since when i went to see it had one of the worst seats of the theater (first row).

That was the whole point. one of the main themes of the movie was how the distinction between good and bad can be blurred, something you dont see too often in action movies.
