The ending was somewhat lame to me. It was also slightly unrealistic. I mean, my friends were complaining that everyone is dying and Tom Cruise gets dust in his hair. That's a lot of luck.

Still, the movie was not bad :)

Check your Private Messages, Snowball. I don't want to spoil any of the movie here, so I replied to your last post via PM. :)

At first, the movie reminded me of "The Day after Tomorrow", because of the special effects and stuff. The ending was a bit disappointing (can you believe a friend of mine told me "Oh, yeah? If it was just a bit more complicated you wouldn't understand nothing at all!"?)

Anyway, it was a very good movie. I suggest everyone go watch it.

BTW, very nice review, Nido, almost made me want to watch the movie again!

I agree with everything...but I also agree with Galar and Snowball, as I've said, the ending is done poorly.

What I mentioned in the review (and again, it's only my opinion, I'm not forcing it on you or anything) is that War of the Worlds is so far beyond other disaster movies like "The Day After Tomorrow" "Independence Day" "Armageddon" and the lot, for many reasons which I mentioned. Not only does it go against all those disaster movie cliches, but it's also different from them because it chooses to focus on protagonists that are just normal, average people, as opposed to big heroes. The protagonists aren't trying to save the world, like they do in other disaster movies. In War of the Worlds, they're just trying to save their own lives, like everyone else.
And about the ending: I stand by my opinion that the ending isn't as disappointing as it's made out to be. I won't go into detail here, though, so as to not ruin it.

I agree with all of what Nido said, including about the ending. Its not bad, cause they cant have much more of a movie after the ending.

Wise words!

the onlt thing that bugged me about the movie is when Fanning begins to scream, her scream is as good as annoying, thou she will totally win 'best horror movie actress' this year, once again, like on hide & seek

MAN NIDO, you beat me to the review, the movie, i loved it, so I wanted to do it myself.

~~MOVIE SPOILERS BELOW. Highlight text to read, at risk of ruining the movie for yourself, unless you have already seen it~~

But, could you explain, what was on the lightning, when the people dissapeard, I didn't watch the gal's film, I was at the bathroom...? heehee!!

anyway, i loved the scene where Dakota is alone by the tree, and then a woman comes, and wants to take her, bacause Robbie wants to go away with the military, i thought they would really take Faning, I was so scared!!!

~~END OF SPOILERS~~

EDIT: If you post movie spoilers in your post, please conceal them so that readers who haven't seen the movie yet won't accidentally stumble upon them. Thank you. :)

I don't think it's a matter of understanding the ending, its very straight foward, the problem was with how it was conveyed. A voice over for about 20 seconds showing nothing of significance in the background explaining what happened is poor I'm sorry. Watch adaptation and see what they say on the matter :P

Indeed. It's what I call a movie with no Beggining nor Ending: the whole movie is the Middle. So they just throw a reason for why everything happened and how it happened...

I just saw this movie a couple of days ago, and wow. It was wonderful. Something I would have never expected. I encourage everyone who hasn't, to watch it. You'll see what I mean when you do.

I agree with the other people that say the ending was bad and rushed.

The effects were brilliant. The acting was great. The storyline changed alot from the book to the film.

 It's meant to be set in London  lol

The bit where that man (sorry forgot the name) is sucked up by the machine then he puts grenades in, thats class, very good.

'They came from somewhere else...'
'Europe?'
'NO NOT EUROPE!'
   ahhh that gets me smiling!

Total rate: 8/10

i still loved the movie. #3 on my list. rating 9 and 3/4 out of 10

SPOILERS AHEAD! (highlight to read)

I think the storyline is very good also, they die of a simple common cold. They werent prepared because even though they had been watching over for like 10000 years, they didnt know what caused a cold. Also they thought inside their Tripods nothing can get them e.g murky water.

END OF SPOILERS

:D

SPOILERS AHEAD! (highlight to read)

Nothing could get them, just they were drinking our blood. Also the special FX: Wow. Best ive seen so far, when they showed the lady in the beggining getting hit by that lazer beam and blowin up: it scared the crap out of me.And when the alien tripod came out of the water and knocked over the boat, that was my favorite scene. Just one last question: Those 2 people that Tom Cruise knew that wanted to go on the boat, what happened to them???

END OF SPOILERS
